iScream for ice cream

It used to be that I couldn't go running without my iPod and my first marathon play list recruited 5 hours of motivational tunes, replayed in the same order on every long run up to and including the race (aside from the obvious insanity of this, quite what made me think starting a well-paced marathon with Prince's "Let's go crazy" is anyone's guess). Over the past year or so, I've been trying to reduce this auditory dependency and, having cut down the fixes dramatically, I've recently been going cold disco turkey in both races and training. Here's are just some of my reasons why:

Never a waisted opportunity

I haven't worn a bumbag since the 80s when I had a neon yellow one from McDonalds that carried essential items, such as my yoyo and some biscuits. Grown-up handbags are all well and good but nothing rivals the convenience of luggage round your tummy; so when Workplay bags recently offered me the chance to review their Fleetfoot II Waist Bag, I jumped right in.

I'm a lucky old thing and, on my thirty-somethingth birthday, I'm reminded I have some lovely friends. Their thoughtful choice of gifts today has also left me with little doubt that:

1. my dependency on cake is well-known,
2. training for the race that dare not be named is becoming almost as conspicuous.
